This article gives ideas and solutions that may be useful where your clients have both physical disabilities and visual impairment. Solutions for people with both disabilities include equipment and adaptations to the environment; however, training to raise confidence may also be useful.

Last month, Rochester Cathedral held an exhibition of Creative art by sight impaired residents of the Medway Towns. Work aimed to challenge perception and was very well received by visitors.Posted by maryparsons on 1 November 2010
Whilst teaching orientation and mobility in past years I have worked with very diverse clients; individuals who have learning disabilities, and others who are very fast learners. This has caused me to reflect on how people learn, and I wonder if there are useful parallels to draw that can aid the teaching of mobility skills to people with learning disabilities.

When individuals have central vision loss, it is very likely that their ability to read will be affected. This can impact on education and employment. However, there are various solutions, and what works will be down to the individual.

Often, children with learning disabilities may not have had the same opportunities to take risks; they may also not have been ready to learn. Therefore when working with adults with learning disabilities, achievements maybe more significant than you realise.
