Social Care

Man with Guide Dog

If you work in social care, it is important to identify and respond to the needs of your individual clients.

If you have clients with visual impairment, having the confidence to communicate and the skills to enable independence are vital.

How can Create Vision UK help Social Care Providers?

  • Provide visual awareness training to work with individuals who have a visual impairment;  ensuring that you can communicate effectively, and encourage independence at an achievable level.
  • Assess individuals to identify needs for support, training and equipment.
  • Provide training to individuals in areas as appropriate (kitchen skills, dealing with money, Braille and keyboard skills, handwriting and reading, safe mobility and orientation).
  • Advise about access to various organisations, support groups and equipment.
  • Audit your built environment to see how accessibility could be improved, including use of lighting, signage, tactile and colour contrast.
